Tell you The Way cheap and easy to make curtain

A cheap and easy to make curtain and scarf ensemble to make yourself. To make a pair of bedroom or living room curtains with a scarf that goes over the top follow these instructions. First measure the width of your window and the length from the curtain rod to floor. Double the measurement of the width as curtains are gathered at the top. (Ex. If you have a window that is 4 feet across than you would need 2 panels that are aprx. 4 feet across each.) Now double the length measurement and add an extra 20 inches onto the length measurement. (Ex: If from the floor to the ground is 7 ft. than you would need 14 ft. 20 in. of fabric.) The extra 20 inches allows 10 inches of material to use for the sleeve that the rod is to go through. For the scarf you should measure from along the side to around the top of the rod and down the other side to find an appropriate length for your scarf. Pick a good heavy material for your curtains, especially if they are going to help keep the sun out in the early morning hours. In the example above the window was 4 ft. across, if when you open the material up and the width is approximately the size you need, but is not exact, that is fine. Otherwise, in the example above it would have been OK if the width was 3.5 ft or 4.5 ft. The scarf can be lacy or a little more delicate material than the curtains. Try to pick a scarf color that does not exactly match the curtains but complements another color in your bedroom. Before you begin to sew remember to wash all material in the washing machine. Now to make the curtain you should measure out half of the material you have. In the example used above I would have measured out 7 ft for the curtain plus 10 inches for the sleeve. Both curtain panels should be equal. Depending on how large the curtain rod is will depend on how large the sleeve should be that goes over it. If you have a standard size rod than you can take the cloth and fold it back to make the sleeve. Sew this down. Place panel on rod and decide just how long you would like the curtain. Use a pin to pin up the bottom of the curtain, and then sew it the length you like. Unless the sides of the panels are mis-colored, are fraying or have a name brand on them you can pretty much leave them alone. On your scarf you should sew any and all ends. Once the scarf is complete you can lay it over the top of the rod pulling the material down in places until you get just the look you want. To spruce up the set you can purchase tassels and sew them on the end of the scarf or buy the tassels with the ropes and use it as a tie back. |
